Fountain Season and the Struggle with Nakedness

Fountain season is upon us. Be it 65 or 95 degrees, Finn will be indulging in fountain goodness wherever and whenever he finds it. As it was mid-May and I hadn't yet compiled my emergency fountain kit to bring along in the car, the stuggle began. The nakedness struggle. To blame Finn would be blatently wrong. What kid wants to 1) wear jeans in water paradise, and 2) keep said jeans on when they become soaking wet. There was a moment when I sprinted across the fountain to prevent everything from the waist down from being shed. We compromised and the underwear stayed on. I like to think of underwear as nature's politically correct swimsuit when your emergency fountain kit is unavailable.

Surprise... it's Omi!

We were extremely lucky to snag Omi for another week in May. We spent our time together marveling at the construction equipment along our street, playing with play-doh, and indulging in Two Tarts - everyone's favorite. Oh, and another picnic at the Rose Garden was a must!

Along with the arrival of my new, super camera came an insatiable need to capture precious portraits of my boy. Here are a few of my favorites.

Mother's Day Tradition

It has become a tradition in our little family to celebrate Mother's Day (and oftentimes Father's Day) at the Rose Garden. The roses aren't yet in bloom, but the wall of explosive rhodedendrom is more than worth the visit. It was a gorgeous day for a picnic and, of course, some soccer. The greatest Mother's Day present of all was hearing Finn say, "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy!" mulitple times each day for the next week. Even Daddy was wished a Happy Mother's Day. :)

Fieldtrip!

Finn's preschool class went on a fieldtrip to the zoo last week. Brave (and maybe a little crazy) is his teacher to take a gaggle of three year olds on the light rail and out on the town! Finn had to bring a backpack with his lunch in it and he looked absolutely adorable.

GCG

The Grilled Cheese Grill, or "GCG," as we fondly refer to it, was perhaps Finn's most fun dining experience...ever. It's nothing more than an airstream trailer (aka: kitchen), school bus, and a parking lot. We took Omi and Opa here for lunch while they were visiting and we all had a blast. Here's how it works: the sandwiches are cooked inside the airstream trailer and, after your name is called, you board the school bus and eat inside! The grilled cheese sandwiches (some of which are quite gourmet, and all of which are delish!) were amazing and eating inside the bus was incredibly fun. Highly recommended for kids and adults alike.

Omi and Opa

Another month, another set of visitors! Omi and Opa arrived in late April for a quick visit. Park playdates, play-doh and t-ball were all on the agenda. Finn and Omi even cooked up some yummy pizzas in an Omi-designed Lego-style wood burning oven. Finn was chatty as usual and you could rely on his hourly request, "Will you play cars with me, Opa?" Omi and Opa brought Finn a Tower of London double decker city bus from their travels, which was a big hit. One night Finn got out of bed and, as I guided him back in, he whined, "But I want to go to the Tower of Loooondon!" Ha! A great visit filled with many more treasured memories.
